Baby Boy Shower Gift for the New Daddy!

Got invited to a baby shower.  I'm not one for baby showers but when I do go I always make some kind of gift.   I've known the baby boy's dad to be over 20 years which I decided to make him a daddy tool belt.  I've been making them for some time.  It's always fun.

The new baby's theme was rockets.  I found some rocket clipart to transfer on the tool belt and luckily found a few rocket items, like star whatever that is, and a rocket chewie.  Blue is the color of as many items I could find, bottle, duckie, gloves, diaper pins,  pacifiers, it was fun to put together.  Finished it off by wrapping in clear wrap.  I think he'll have fun opening it up.  Found out, the favorite name so far for baby is Javi, love it.  Momma looked sweet and the shower was so nice, I won a gift!  A scented candle.

 

Avery's 1st Birthday

I was asked to help with Avery's 1st Birthday Party.  Avery likes Minnie Mouse, that was the theme.  I made the banner in the background using a Minnie font and I found the banner template on Pinterest.  I searched Pinterest for cake ideas and boy are there ideas!  Tons of them!!

Here's the cake I made.  I used round ramekisns, which were the perfect size.  I cut the tops off to make it flat and I made it three layers, vanilla, chocolate, vanilla.  I frosted it with white buttercream frosting, which by the way is the best ever frosting ever!  Dropped some sprinkles on the top and the cake looked awesome, if I say so myself.

I was able to catch this great great close up photo of Avery!  She's adorable.

Halloween is one of my favorite days.  I was one of those kids who always had a costume and continued on into my adult life.  But the funnest was dressing up Gabi, she was always game to dress up!  Here's some past Halloweens with her!

Baby photo shoot!

I got to spend time with two babies with my camera in hand. 

Garrett is 6 months old and spending the evening with him was precious.  I got to get him after his nap and he cuddles so sweetly.  He smiles and smiles and smiles.  He makes the sweetest baby noises!  It was fun taking his picture.  In these photos, the green jumper he's wearing is his daddy's baby jumper and the ball was a toy his daddy had as a baby.  Isn't that sweet.  The rest of the evening with him was awesome.  He even gives kisses xoxox!

This sweet baby girl is Avery.  She was easy to photograph.  I crocheted the crown for her and it worked out great.  

The pink dress she's wearing is from her Grandmother, it was so cute and so cute on her.

Sewing onesies!

I have a new great niece and she's the first great niece on my side of the family.  She so darn cute. 

Meet Anaya 

I bought her some onesies and they were the boring plain white style.  I thought how boring I needed to change them up. 

Here's the one I made with linen fabric and tulle overlay.  Adorable!

I used a piece of fabric the size of a quilt fat square and cut it in half lengthwise.  I sewed two side seams to make the skirt.  I did this with both the white linen fabric and the tulle.  To gather the top edge I put both the tulle and linen together and sew two stitch lines  to be able to gather the skirt.

I pulled on the threads of the two stitched lines to gather the top of the skirt.

I used a pencil to make a guide line on the onesie where the skirt will be placed.

Pinned the gathered skirt edge with right sides together. Notice the gathered edge is facing the bottom of the onesie.

Had to take the arm off the machine to make it fit.

Made a wide hem on the linen skirt.

I have this great new sewing machine, but it didn't have a neat edge stitch so back to my older machine.  I used a scallop stitch to edge the tulle skirt part.  So cute and so easy.

I used the same scallop stitch along the neck edges.  It was a good idea but I didn't like the look of it and it stretched out the neck more than I liked.

Babies means baby showers means baby toolbelts!

Baby showers this time in my life are mainly my good friend's grandbabies. 

The PINK one is for baby Peyton, she's due end of July.  It's my friend, Debbie's first grandbaby.  The baby shower was very nice and fun.  The new Mommy is adorable!

 

 

The BLUE tool belt is for Oliver's dad, Stevie, as I call him, I think he's now STEVE.   I've know Stevie since he was a baby.  I met his mother, Kathy, the first month of my job I had for 25 years.  She had just had Stevie and returned to work & shared my first office with me.   She's an awesome Grandma!

 

 

I got the canvas tool belts at Lowes, but really didn't like the logo, so I painted over it and I like the way it looked much better.  I shopped at dollar stores, Walmart, and Lowes for the stuff.  One place I had never been to was Baby's R Us, omg what an overwhelming place!  I went looking for a basic rattler, cloth diaper pins, and diaper changing pad thingies.  I just had to walk the isles to see what the heck was in this store...everything and I mean everything is there.  I must confess most of the stuff I had no clue what it was or what it was for...haha.  I couldn't find a basic rattler but did find the changing pads and pins.
